St. Maximus Intro
Here is a paper I finished recently on St. Maximus. It isn’t like a usual paper so much as a study guide of his terminology, but along the way I also examine various interpretations and criticisms. There are many other terms I would have liked to add, but the class was on cosmology, so I was told to exclude all the Christology and anthropology. (That’s next semester.) That is why the issues I examine are basically ontological ones.
I used to dislike the word “ontology,” because so often it seems to signify only the speaker’s profundity. But I’ve finally started to appreciate what “the study of being” is supposed to mean. Lately I’ve thought of it as “the anatomy of being.” Perhaps it shouldn’t be all analysis, but that’s at least a start.
